Is Vroam available yet?

Not on the App Store yet. It is in a closed TestFlight beta and heading to the App Store soon. Join the list on the homepage and you will hear the day it lands.

What does it cost?

Vroam is free to start. A Pro subscription is coming after launch.

Does it work offline?

Your saved spots live on your phone, so you can pull them up with no signal. Full offline map downloads for a route are planned but not built yet. Anything that needs live data, like weather, needs a connection.

Is my rig too big?

Vroam is built for anyone traveling in a vehicle, from a minivan to a Class A. You can store your rig height and length, and the app flags a spot that posts a limit you would not clear, but most spots post no limit at all, so treat it as a bonus rather than a safety net. Vroam does not route around low bridges or clearance limits, so keep watching posted signs.

How is Vroam different from onX or Gaia?

They are off-road navigation apps and they are good at it. Vroam is not trying to replace them, and if you already use one I would keep it. Picking a trail by difficulty, tracking yourself down a two-track, that is their job. Vroam is for the rest of the day: where you are allowed to sleep, whether there is water and a dump station nearby, what the weather and the smoke and the cell service will be at the exact spot you are headed. Different question. Plenty of people will carry both.

Why not just use iOverlander?

You might, and I am not going to tell you otherwise. iOverlander has been at this for years and has far more crowdsourced pins than Vroam does. That is a real gap and I am not pretending it is not there. What Vroam does instead is put authoritative land data under the map, so you can see who manages the ground and what the general rule is, and pack in the tools that answer the rest of the day: cell coverage by carrier, wildfire and smoke, the forecast at the pin rather than the nearest town, water and dump and showers, and an assistant you can just ask. The pins will catch up. Everything else is what makes the app worth opening while they do.

Where does the spot data come from?

Most spots come from OpenStreetMap, a map anyone can edit, plus Recreation.gov for bookable federal campgrounds. Where we have the record, a spot also shows what kind of land it sits on, using BLM, USFS and NPS land data, so you can tell a crowdsourced listing from official land status.

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app, open Settings and choose to delete your account. That removes your data. If you cannot get into the app, email support and it will be handled for you.

Is Vroam on Android?

Not yet, but it is being built. iOS ships first, because one person builds this and one platform done properly beats two done badly. I am not putting a date on Android until I have one I would actually keep. Join the list and you will hear when it is ready.
